Mat Workshops
The Classical Mat Repertoire
Students will have the chance to learn the Classical Mat repertoire and deepen their knowledge about the Mat. The workshop addresses the original 34 Mat exercises from Joseph Pilates but also the extended Mat order by Romana Kryzanowska. The workshop consist of exercises from basic to advanced and will include modifications, progressions and advancements as well as considerations for special populations. Variations of the exercises from multiple of the Pilates Elders are included. (2-6 hours)
Mastering Control on the Mat
Joseph Pilates referred to his method as the Art of Control. “Contrology develops the body uniformly, corrects wrong postures, restores physical vitality, invigorates the mind, and elevates the spirit” Joseph Pilates (1945). In this workshop, tools are given to foster ways of attaining greater consistent control in Pilates. Participants learn various approaches of scaffolding and deconstructing the Pilates exercises, as well as learn how to recognize the skills involved in the exercises to strengthen those skills. (2-4 hours)
Using Scaffolding in the Pilates Mat
Scaffolding is an education theory developed by Lev Vygostsky and Jerome Bruner, it is the provision of sufficient support to promote learning when concepts and skills are being first introduced to students. Supports are gradually removed as students develop autonomous learning strategies, thus promoting their own cognitive, affective and psychomotor learning skills and knowledge. In this workshop we will apply the theory of scaffolding to the Pilates Mat work, to use as a tool to meet the needs and create success for all of the participants of Pilates. (2-4 hours)
The Right Touch
Clara Pilates was often referred to as the Sculpture for her effective way of touching, molding and sculpting the body when she taught. This workshop continues in that tradition of using an effective hands-on approach to assist clients to understand the Pilates exercises better. Proper use of a hands-on approach helps with giving and receiving feedback, facilitation of movement, providing clients the understanding of the opposition in the exercises and helps to foster a clear understanding of how to execute the exercises accurately. (2-3 hours)
Reformer Workshops
The Classical Reformer Repertoire
Students will have the chance to learn the Classical Reformer repertoire and deepen their knowledge about the Universal Reformer. The workshop consist of exercises from basic to advanced and will include modifications, progressions and advancements as well as considerations for special populations. Variations of the exercises from multiple of the Pilates Elders are included. (2-6 hours)
Deepen your Understanding on the Universal Reformer
Students will have the chance to learn the Classical repertoire and deepen their knowledge about the exercises on the Universal Reformer. In the workshop participants learn various approaches of scaffolding and deconstructing the Pilates Reformer exercises. Students will learn how to recognize the skills involved in the Reformer exercises and then find ways of strengthen the particular skills. (2-4 hours)
Studio Workshops
Generating an Effective Pilates Lesson
This workshop focuses on ways of designing an effective Pilates lesson plan looking through a classical Pilates lens. Students will learn how to teach to the body in front of them while providing structure, a means of measurement and consistency for their clients. Students will learn how to progress, assess and find various ways of creating success for their clients. (2-4 hours)
Pre-Pilates and Modifications
The Pre Pilates and Modifications workshop, includes everything from the initial exposure to contrology, it's origins, exercises for special populations and for individuals with pre-existing conditions, who require modifications/enhancements prior to the complete Basic repertoire. (2-4 hours)
Apparatus Workshops
The Classical Cadillac
Students will have the chance to learn the Classical Cadillac repertoire and deepen their knowledge about the Cadillac. The workshop consist of exercises from basic to advanced and will include modifications, progressions and advancements as well as considerations for special populations. Variations of the exercises from multiple of the Pilates Elders are included. This workshop can be applied for the Tower as well. (2-6 hours)
The Classical Pilates Chairs (Electric Chair and Wunda Chair)
Students will have the chance to learn the Classical Electric and Wunda Chair repertoire and deepen their knowledge about the two chairs. The workshop consist of exercises from basic to advanced and will include modifications, progressions and advancements as well as considerations for special populations. Variations of the exercises from multiple of the Pilates Elders are included. (2-6 hours)
The Classical Pilates Barrels (Small Barrel, Spine Corrector Barrel and Ladder Barrel)
Students will have the chance to learn the Classical Small, Spine Corrector and Ladder Barrel repertoire and deepen their knowledge about the Pilates Barrels. The workshop consist of exercises from basic to advanced and will include modifications, progressions and advancements as well as considerations for special populations. Variations of the exercises from multiple of the Pilates Elders are included. (2-6 hours)
Special Populations
Pilates for Youth
“First Educate the Child” a chapter in “Your Health” by Joseph Pilates. Joseph Pilates strongly believed that children should learn the Pilates Method of Body Conditioning. The workshop focuses on appropriate methods of teaching the Pilates Method to the youth learner, in all developmental ages groupings. Learn cognitive, behavioral, physiological and anatomical considerations in teaching this population. Learn how to generate educational, creative and fun lesson plans that are developmentally appropriate. The workshop addresses how to implement a Pilates curriculum into a variety of settings. (2-4 hours)
Spinal and Trunk Abnormalities
The Spinal and Trunk Abnormalities workshop gives participants the ability to classify different abnormalities of the spine, they will be able to recognize body systems of the human anatomy and they will be able to design and execute methods and protocols of working with specific populations of people with spine abnormalities by implementing exercises of the Pilates method of body conditioning. (2-4 hours)
Knee Abnormalities
The Knee Abnormalities workshop gives participants the ability to classify different abnormalities of the knee, they will be able to recognize body systems of the human anatomy and they will be able to design and execute methods and protocols of working with specific populations of people with knee abnormalities by implementing exercises of the Pilates method of body conditioning. (2-4 hours)
Pilates for Scoliosis
The Pilates for Scoliosis workshop gives participants the ability to recognize Scoliosis in a client and give them the ability to design and execute methods and protocols of working with this population of people by implementing exercises of the Pilates method of body conditioning. (2-3 hours)
Putting your Best Foot Forward Seminar
The foot is a complex structure, which serves as a stable weight support, adapts to uneven surfaces and spring as well as propels in actions like walking, running and jumping. The foot is the foundation to the body, when there is poor function of the foot it can affect the rest of the body. The workshop explores the anatomy and biomechanics of the foot, addresses common injuries and abnormalities of the foot and exemplifies how the implementation of the Pilates method of body conditioning can assist in both injury prevention and rehabilitation of common foot abnormalities, for a healthy efficient foot. (2-4 hours)
